Ian is a commercial litigator with over 22 years’ post qualification experience. He moved to the Cayman Islands in 2012 from the London office of Reed Smith. Ian has acted in a variety of matters but with particular emphasis on financial services, company and insolvency law. He regularly appears as an advocate before both the Grand Court and Court of Appeal. Recent appeal cases involve: * A dispute about the enforceability of an arbitration clause in a construction contract (McAlpine v Butterfield Bank (21 November 2019 CICA No 30 of 2019) * An application by a third party for disclosure of trial evidence on the “open justice” principle (30 July 2018 TIBC v Algosaibi CICA 29 of 2017). * A dispute over the right to enforce a charge over shares in a Cayman Islands company (Waterfront v Ebanks 21 June 2018 CICA 10 of 2017) * A dispute about weighted voting rights in a Strata Corporation (Thompson Resorts v Clappison 2017 CILR 274). Ian is Cayman Islands editor of the Journal of International Banking Law and joint editor of the Cayman Islands chapter of Global Legal Insights: Litigation and Dispute Resolution
