On 31 July 2024 a new beneficial ownership reporting regime (BORR) came into force in the Cayman Islands under the Beneficial Ownership Transparency Act 2023 and the Beneficial Ownership Transparency Regulations, 2024.
The legislation made significant changes to the previous Cayman Islands beneficial ownership framework and consolidated provisions previously contained in separate entity-specific legislation. Guidance issued by the Cayman Islands Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce provided for compliance with the new elements of the regime from 1 January 2025.
