Gemma is a Partner in the Regulatory team, based in the Cayman Islands.
Gemma graduated with an MA in Law from the University of Cambridge and began her career in 2013 at Allen & Overy LLP in London, qualifying in 2015.
Gemma is an experienced financial regulatory and transactional lawyer, with a very strong technical legal background, skilled at identifying and addressing legal and regulatory risks with a commercial and pragmatic approach.
Gemma’s experience includes advising HM Treasury with regard to the legal and regulatory issues associated with the sale of the UK Government’s post-crisis nationalised loan book, as well as advising in respect of the securitised disposals. Gemma has also advised the government of a Middle Eastern country with respect to the drafting of its regulated financial services laws. Gemma has significant experience drafting and reviewing consumer-facing loan origination documentation for regulated lenders as well as advising lenders and investors in respect of litigation arising out of mortgage and consumer finance activities.
Gemma advises on both regulatory and compliance matters in the Cayman Islands, including economic substance, beneficial ownership, insurance, virtual assets and anti-money laundering. Gemma frequently advises clients in connection with obtaining regulatory licenses in the Cayman Islands, particularly under the Virtual Asset (Service Providers) Act.
Gemma was a frequent contributor to the regulatory textbook, Wurtzburg & Mills: Building Society Law whilst practicing in the UK. Gemma now frequently contributes to the Chambers and Partners Global Practice Guide, including Securitisation 2025 – Cayman Islands (Law and Practice) and Fintech 2025 – Cayman Islands (Law and Practice).
